The Society of Engineering Science (SES) Technical Meeting is held annually to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas and information among the various disciplines of engineering and the physical and life sciences as well as mathematics. The conference has been held during 54 years in a university campus in North America (with the exception of 1972 in Israel) but the 55th edition of the Annual Technical Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science will be hosted by IMDEA Materials Institute on October 10th-12th, 2018 in the Leganés (Madrid, Spain) campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid. Bringing this event to Europe is a bold movement of the Board of Directors of the Society of Engineering Science to spread the goals and objectives of the Society throughout the world.
IMDEA Materials Institute is a non-profit independent organization promoted in 2007 by the regional government of Madrid to carry out research of excellence, technology transfer to industry and attract talented researchers to Madrid to work in a truly international and interdisciplinary environment. The Institute currently counts with more than 120 researchers from 17 different nationalities and has rapidly become one the reference research institutions in Europe in Materials Science and Engineering, both from the viewpoint of academic research and of technology transfer to industry.
The venue of the conference will be the Leganés campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid, site of the School of Engineering. The campus has state-of-the-art facilities for the organization of large conferences and the city of Legánes (15 km to the south of Madrid) is very well connected with the city center by train and metro.
Madrid, capital of Spain, is an excellent venue with direct flight connections from all major European and American cities and a modern infrastructure from the viewpoint of transportation, hotels and facilities for the organization of large conferences. Moreover, the cultural attractions of the city include several of the best museums in the world, while the history of western Europe can be better understood by visiting nearby cities like Toledo, Avila, Segovia or El Escorial.
Looking forward to welcome you in Madrid in 2018,
Prof. Javier LLorca and Prof. Ignacio Romero
